Reiki therapy falls into the category of energy medicine. The Reiki practitioner serves as a conduit for universal life force energy. In a therapy session the practitioner places their hands on or above the persons body, often in a set series of hand positions. The person is fully clothed. The receiver can experience this Reiki energy in many ways; as heat, a tingling sensation, cold or sometimes feels no physical sensation at all. Because the body of the receiver determines what is taken in, each person’s experience is unique. A Reiki therapy session is almost always a relaxing experience, while the healing that takes place differs according to the needs of the individual. This healing may come in the form of physical, mental or emotional healing. Reiki differs from other energy healing therapies in that the Reiki practitioner does not use their own energy, but rather acts as a conduit for universal life force energy.
